I’ve been thinking lately about how trust is at the core of every successful business. Only when we trust ourselves can we create the conditions for our teams to trust in themselves—a critical factor in brand health. How does trust play into creation and, therefore, brand evolution and growth? It’s a huge and critical ingredient in the creation equation.
Creation = Trust × Surrender in Liminal Spaces
Creating anything—a business, a brand, an idea—is an act of the utmost trust in ourselves and our intuition.
When we start a business, it’s often the pinnacle expression of trust through creation. It’s a moment where we step into the unknown, fueled by belief in our vision. But here’s the paradox:
🌿 Creation requires surrender. The moment you spark an idea, you know there will be a future moment where you "arrive"—but the only way there is through creation itself. You can’t force it. You have to allow it.
⚡ Creation requires trust. Without trust in yourself, your intuition, and your ability to navigate the unknown, you’ll hesitate, overthink, and second-guess.
💡 Liminality is the space where trust and surrender collide. When you’re in the in-between—where the outcome isn’t clear yet—the only way forward is to embrace both.
Yet, over time, trust and surrender often fade. Self-doubt creeps in. The weight of execution and the daily grind of running a business take over. The creative spark starts to take a backseat.
The irony? The very things that launched our business—trust and surrender—are the same things we must return to in order to keep it evolving.
Why Does This Matter in Business?
If you’re feeling disconnected from your business, ask yourself:
Where have I lost trust in myself? Am I outsourcing decisions or ignoring my instincts? Am I empowering my team to trust in themselves?
Where am I gripping too tightly? Am I trying to control every outcome instead of allowing creativity and flow?
Am I resisting the liminal phase? Am I allowing space for creation and evolution? Growth is uncomfortable, but it’s also where the magic happens.
This isn’t just about mindset—it’s about the energetics of how we move through business.
If creation requires both trust and surrender, then misalignment happens when we let one (or both) fall away.
